Country´s Exhibition "Franconia in the Middle Ages", Forchheim, Germany, 2004
Bishops, citizens, farmers and saints - living diversity in a confined space
All this and more, that's Franconia: hardfought over by the kings, bishops and the aristocracy in the Middle Ages with several different centers of importance, but no real central government. "Gruppe Gut" and OSRAM implemented the lighting concept for the “Franconia in the Middle Ages” exhibition organized by the Center of Bavarian History.
Franconia in the Middle Ages
Documents and objects over 1,500 years old which immersed the visitors into the world of the Middle Ages were presented during the exhibition. The exhibition showed the history of Bavarian Franconia from 500 to 1500. Geographically speaking, the exhibition was focused on the territory of the modern Franconian administrative district. The "Kaiserpfalz" is a very attractive and historical place especially suitable for this exhibition which was constituted by the architects of "Gruppe Gut".
Lighting concept
The requirements for the lighting design were defined in line with the conservational aspects (treatment of loaned items), support for the architecture and the necessity of achieving a comfortable ambient temperature in non-air-conditioned rooms.
The aims were accomplished by using fiber-optic system with lenses (adjusted especially for the requirements) and reflectors, everything integrated into the show display. Moreover, some flat lighting frames with lateral light injection were used.
