Country´s Exhibitions Heinrich II, Bamerg, Germany, 2002
Mystical production of historical treasures of Heinrich II by means of lighting.
Emotional lighting creates the framework for a world cultural heritage. Of special interest was the illumination of the precious specimens of handwriting, some over 1,000 years old, which had an insurance value of several million euros The exhibition in 2002 in Bamberg attracted more than 205,000 visitors and was a very successful exhibition organized by the Centre of the Bavarian History.
Heinrich II.
The focus of the exhibition was on the life and times of Heinrich II.. Locations were, for example, the "Alte Hofhaltung" and the "Bamberger Domplatz", that combined with selected exhibits created a special atmosphere for visitors.
Lighting concept
The exhibition architects "Gruppe Gut" and OSRAM developed a lighting concept that reduces the ambient light and creates a dramatic atmosphere caused by light directed specifically at the exhibits.
The light itself served as a guide and led the visitors through the exhibition and its places.
Project challanges
Handling the demands placed on the conservation of the exhibits was one of the biggest challenges of this lighting project, especially for the valuable and sensitive exhibits like the coronation cloak or the Book of Gospels of Heinrich II.
Therefore, ultraviolet radiation had to be avoided and lighting levels had to be low. For this reason, new fanless and consequently soundless fiber optic generators were developed which were employed, for example, in the technical units of the vitrines.
