OSRAM and Philips Lighting establish an Internet marketplace

MUNICH - OSRAM GmbH, Munich, and Philips Lighting B.V., Eindhoven, are establishing an electronic buy-side marketplace for the lighting industry.

The business-to-business e-marketplace called LightXchange will be of benefit to manufacturers and suppliers. Expected benefits will derive from increasing supply chain efficiencies, enabling all partners of the supply chain to make use of advanced trading technologies and improving the overall sourcing process.

In the electronic marketplace suppliers will find requests for quotation, requests for proposal and reverse auctions to trade raw materials and semi-finished products. This Internet forum will allow for easier negotiation processes and faster exchange of information.

LightXchange is planning to carry out its first transactions with suppliers within the next three months. After an initial "Proof of Concept" phase an independent company will run the marketplace. This company will be open to other partners, i.e. lighting manufacturers and their suppliers. From the start, OSRAM and Philips each hold a minority stake of less than 25 percent in this company. Neither OSRAM nor Philips Lighting alone will have decisive control in this company, nor will they have such control together.
