New from Osram:
The world’s smallest reflector lamp
The name says it all. "Ministar" is the name of the smallest low-voltage halogen reflector lamp in the world. With its extremely compact dimensions it opens up new possibilities for designing small and stylish luminaires. Osram will be presenting this innovative lamp for the first time at Light + Building 2004 in Frankfurt.
With the development of Ministar, Osram is continuing the trend in miniaturisation. Now it is possible for directional halogen light to be provided in very small luminaires because the reflector is integrated in the lamp itself. The opportunities for designers and manufacturers to create complete lighting systems and individual luminaires are as broad as their imaginations.
Ministar is available in two versions. One of these versions features an axial reflector and has an overall length of 44 mm and a diameter of 16 mm. It comes in 20, 35 and 50 W models. Its light is directed downwards at an angle of 20 or 30 degrees, making it perfect for recessed ceiling luminaires, flexible lighting systems and spotlights.
The other version has a side reflector. This version is even smaller, with an overall length of 33 mm and a diameter of 9.5 mm. At 10 and 20 W, its connected load is somewhat smaller but its luminous efficacy is high. The 10 W lamp, for example, provides almost as much light as a standard 20 W halogen pin-base lamp. With its side reflector and low thermal output it can be used wherever excessive temperatures may cause damage. This means that it is particularly suitable for furniture luminaires.
In both Ministar versions a special coating on the reflector ensures that the thermal load in the luminaire is reduced. What’s more, all the lamps are dimmable, have a UV filter and are low-pressure lamps so they can be operated in open luminaires in accordance with IEC 60598-1.
