Active and Relax: a new pair of incandescent lamps from Osram:
Traditional lamps in a new light
Osram is launching two new incandescent lamps for the home. They will be called Active and Relax. The Active lamp offers natural fresh white light similar to daylight. It is ideal for rooms where people are engaged in activities or have to concentrate, such as home offices, hobby rooms or kitchens.
The Relax lamp creates a warm atmospheric light in the home for rest and relaxation. Unlike conventional coloured incandescent lamps, Relax offers good colour rendering so furnishings in the home retain their character. "Lighting for the home is a key issue at the moment for interior designers. After the Feng Shui wave, light is taking on a new significance. The demand now is for new light sources that meet the need for lighting that fits in more with what is actually going on in the room", said Christiane Schleu, a Munich interior designer.
Micro-particles and a new bulb design
The special lighting effects of the two newcomers are achieved by a coating of special micro-particles. Gently contoured micro-particles on the Relax bulb create an atmospheric light. The coating on the Active lamp consists of crystalline prismatic micro-particles. This produces a natural fresh white light that is very bright but glare-free.
The bulbs for these new lamps are also a new design. The eye-catching shape of the sky-blue or cream-coloured bulb makes it easily recognisable for consumers.
The two lamps will initially be launched with classic E27 bases and can therefore be used as direct replacements for ordinary light bulbs. The Active lamp will be used wherever high lighting levels are needed. It is therefore offered in 60 W and 100 W versions. The Relax lamp is designed to provide a soft relaxing light and will therefore be available in 40 W and 60 W versions.
Eye-catching blister packs
Consumers cannot fail to notice Active and Relax lamps on the shelves. The two lamps are presented in a high-quality blister pack that can either be hung on hooks or displayed free-standing. The transparent PET blister material lets the consumer see the lamp on the shelf. It offers protection against damage and, because it cannot be opened easily, protection against theft. A research study has confirmed that consumers like the new packaging.
